Canal Rocks (3X1C5184)

Long exposure sunset image of Canal Rocks near Yallingup in the South West of Western Australia.

Canal rocks are a series of rocky outcrops lined up close together, just off the mainland near Smiths Beach at Yallingup in the South West of Western Australia, which form a canal like passage between the rocks on the mainland and the rocky outcrops in the sea. A heavily visited and photographed location, often making it difficult to get the image set required for extra wide panoramic images. So choosing an evening with heavy clouds and the odd rain shower I set up my gear on the rocks and waited for the sun to do its thing.

The intention was to take several shots and stitch them together to give an almost 180 degree view point of the canals. Distortion would obviously take place around my vantage point, but the effect is in my eyes still pleasing. The image took several minutes to take due to each frame being a long exposure and I risked the light changing between the first and last shot, however it the heavy cloud controlled this somewhat and I was rewarded with this image for my troubles.

Simply titled “Canal Rocks” given the whole focus is the length of Canal Rocks.
