Fire in the Eye (3X2C0176)

Like a fire in the eye of a storm, the sunset pokes through under an intense storm at Burns Beach, Perth, Western Australia.

It’s one of those times when everything just came together. I was fortunate enough to watch mother nature’s awesome spectacle and to be able to capture numerous images from the same storm off Burns Beach, near Perth in Western Australia. Several of these images making this portfolio, all for slightly different reasons or alternative crops. It was absolutely one of those special moments in my photography life, and totally unexpected just a couple of hours before.

Whilst I was trying to concentrate on capturing dramatic black and white images, such as the example “Approaching Storm”, the intense colour of the red sunset peeking through from beneath the storm cloud was too much to ignore.

The image was composed with the exposed low tide reef providing a line to the horizon to draw your attention to the storm and ultimate the red glow deep within its belly or eye as I term it. An angry storm, which made me happy due to the images I was able to capture and the spectacle it provided.

Titled “Fire in the Eye” to reflect the fire like glow from the eye of the storm as the sun sets on the horizon.

Burns Beach is located along the northern coastline of the city of Perth, Western Australia. Whilst parts of the beach are sandy, there is also a lot of limestone rock structure along its shoreline, making for interesting vistas, especially at sunset. The northern end is a preferred vantage point to capture colourful sunsets, so typical of the West Australian coastline.
