Purple Start (1X3C3591)
Long exposure early morning purple hue to the sunrise at Castle Rock Bay, Dunsborough, South West, Western Australia.
Just before the sun peeked over the horizon, in much the same way as when it drops below the horizon during sunsets, the colour intensifies, often changing dramatically for a few minutes before it disappears and the blue sky or dark night replaces the reds, oranges or pinks.
On this morning whilst taking images on Castle Rock Beach, near Dunsborough, the sky changed from a light orange, to pink and then developed into a purple hue fading to pastel pink and orange.
My intention was to capitalise on the calmness of the scene and thus covey a peaceful representation. A long exposure coupled with the vertical panoramic crop to capture the colour layers of the sunrise, the dark rocks and the cool sands of the beach completes the composition.
Titled “Purple Start” to reflect the purple hue cast by the rise sun at the beginning of the day.
Castle Rock Beach is a popular swimming and fishing beach near Dunsborough in Western Australia’s beautiful South West. It’s also a very heavily photographed place perhaps due to its proximity to Dunsborough. The beach gets its name from the rock structure at the eastern end, which resembles a castle with a little imagination.
