Sun Burst (1X1BW5181)
Long exposure black and white starburst as the sun sets behind the rocks at Canal Rocks near Smiths Beach, Yallingup, South West, Western Australia.
This image is a single exposure from the multi frame stitch of the image “Last Rays” captured at Canal Rocks, near Smiths Beach. The composition was intended to highlight the last burst of light coming from behind the rocks just offshore which form the canal with the mainland. A long exposure used to flatten the water and illustrate the water movement around the rocks during a period of high winds and seas.
Purposely intended to be a dark, slightly depressing image, which conjures up mixed emotions depending on your frame of mind. I probably was in a darker mood at the time, which is reflected in the images taken that evening.
Titled “Sun Burst” to reflect the last burst of sunshine before the sun sank below the horizon behind the offshore rocks which form the canal with the mainland.
Canal rocks are a series of rocky outcrops lined up close together, just off the mainland near Smiths Beach at Yallingup in the South West of Western Australia, which form a canal like passage between the rocks on the mainland and the rocky outcrops in the sea. A heavily visited and photographed location.
